What the
echo tells us

Conventional ultrasonic testing is one of the most common NDT techniques we perform. For over 45 years, we have been performing non-destructive testing both nationally and internationally.

Conventional ultrasonic non-destructive testing among NDT

Conventional ultrasonic testing (UT) is a fundamental volumetric inspection method widely used in non-destructive testing (NDT) that relies on the use of ultrasonic waves to detect internal defects in materials. Conventional UT involves the use of an ultrasonic transducer that emits high-frequency pulses through the material under examination.

The pulses propagate through the material and, when they encounter a boundary or an internal defect, part of the ultrasonic energy is reflected back to the transducer. By measuring the time it takes for the reflected wave to return and analyzing the amplitude of the reflected signal, it is possible to determine the depth and nature of the defect.

The advantages of ultrasonic techniques in NDT

Ultrasonic techniques offer numerous advantages in non-destructive testing.

Volumetric
method

Ultrasound can detect defects within the volume of the material, providing a complete assessment of its integrity.

Penetration
depth

Ultrasonic waves can penetrate deep into materials and are therefore suitable for the inspection of thick components.

High
resolution

The technologies enable detailed visualization of defects, facilitating accurate diagnosis.

Repeatability

Ultrasonic tests can be easily repeated for monitoring over time.
